The word fibromyalgia (FM) means pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons, fibrous parts of the body. FM is a painful non-joint condition that predominantly affects the muscles; Its main characteristics were enunciated as generalized pain and an exaggerated sensitivity in multiple predefined points such as “tender points” or trigger points (Galindo, 2004: 171-187). 90% of those diagnosed are women.
Through mixed methodology, with a predominance of qualitative methodology (Focus Groups), the perception of disease (signs and symptoms) in men with Fibromyalgia (FM), the experience they experience, the personal repercussion of being a disease will be explored mostly of women. The FIQ (Impact Questionnaire of the FM-FIQ) and questionnaire of sociodemographic and clinical variables will also be administered. It will take place in Terres de l’Ebre, Lleida and Northeast Iowa and South of Minnesota.
We know that it is a pending research point in clinical practice. On the one hand, due to the variability of the symptomatology, the lack of knowledge by some professionals, the underdiagnosis and the lack of satisfactory treatments (Munguía & Legaz, 2007). There is an underdiagnosis due to a lack of knowledge in the identification of symptoms both by men and by clinicians that produces a high use of health resources and expenses in the community (García, 2004).
